SREE PADMANABHASWAMY TEMPLE:
Historians say the temple dates back to the 8th century but the present structure was built in the 18th century by the then Travancore Maharaja Marthanda Varma.
The Padmanabhaswamy temple is a Hindu temple located in Thiruvananthapuram, India. The name of the city of Thiruvananthapuram in Malayalam translates to “The City of Lord Ananta”, referring to the deity of the Padmanabhaswamy temple.
Across the world, the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple is renowned for its beauty and grandeur. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, it is one of the 108 sacred Vishnu temples or ‘Divya Deshams’ in India. The great King of Travancore, Marthanda Varma is said to have done the renovation work that we see today.
SABARIMAL SASTHA TEMPLE:
Sabarimala is an important pilgrim town located within a forest reserve, famous for the Sabarimala Sree Ayyappa Dharma Sastha Temple, that attracts more than 30 million pilgrims annually, making it the largest in India and second largest in the world, after Haji Pilgrimage of Mecca in Saudi Arabia.
One legend says that Lord Ayyappa does not receive menstruating women in the temple in honour of Malikapurathamma – a lady-demon who was defeated by the Lord after which she proposed marriage to him. The Lord had set the condition that he would marry her the day devotees stop visiting him at Sabarimala.
ATTUKAL BHAGAVATHY TEMPLE:
Attukal pongala is Celebrated at the Attukal Bhagavathy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, India, Attukal Pongala is a ten-day festival during which millions of women gather on a ninth day and prepare a spiritual food made of rice in clay or earthen pots and offer it to the goddess of the temple.
Goddess Bhadrakali, mounted over ‘vethala’, is the main deity in this temple. Bhadrakali, a form of Mahakali, who killed the demon king Daruka, believed to be born from the third eye of lord Shiva.
AMBALAPUZHA SREE HRISHNA TEMPLE :
The temple is believed to have been built during the 15th – 17th CE by Pooradam Thirunal Devanarayanan Thampuran, ruler of the erstwhile Chembakassery kingdom.
The temple also has a majestic display of paintings depicting the ten avatars of Lord Vishnu (Dasavatharam). Devotees are also reminded that is here that the first performance of the legendary Ottanthullal, a powerful satirical folk art that comments on various socio-political issues, was first performed.
