DAWKI RIVER

The boat ride here is something one could dream of . The river water is so clean and clear that you can see quite deep in the water and see the clear rocks.

About 95 Kms from Shillong-The capital of Meghalaya and just a mile close to Indo-Bangladesh International border in the west Jaintia Hills, the town named Dawki is famous for its pristine green surroundings and of course the Umngot River which i would say is among the cleanest river in whole of India.

WARD’S LAKE

Ward’s Lake, locally known as Pollock Lake or Nan Polok, is an artificial lake in Shillong, Meghalaya, India. Located in the centre of the city, it is one of the most visited tourist spots of Shillong.

The lake is named after the then Chief Commissioner of Assam, Sir William Ward, who started the plan for the establishment of this lake. It was later on constructed in the year 1894 by Colonel Hopkins.

One of the associated stories is that a Khasi prisoner develop the area around the Lake to change the monotony is his daily routine.⁣⁣

UMNGOT RIVER

The Umngot River acts as a natural divide between Jhantia and Khasi hills, before finally flowing into Bangladesh. They say that the water of the river is so clear that the boats floating on it look as if they are on a crystal glass surface.

The highlight for us was the “RIVER TREK”. The guides are very professional, helpful and lovely people. Well if you are visiting, rent a tent (with Bonfire at night) and stay in the wild and do the river trek, waterfall trek, split rock visit for sure among other activities. All in all great experience.
