It is almost 12 km away from the Shillong city center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Britishers named this&nbsp;fall&nbsp;so owing to the presence of an&nbsp;<strong>elephant-shaped rock <\/strong>on one side of the&nbsp;fall. Also known as <strong>Nohsngithiang Falls<\/strong>, they form a seven-segmented waterfall, which plunges over the top of limestone cliffs of the Khasi Hills. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The falls only flow during the rainy season. The vibrant colors of the setting sun make for a great sight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"800\" height=\"550\" src=\"https:\/\/indianonly.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/SEVEN.jpg\" alt=\"WATER FALLS - THE BEAUTY OF MEGHALAYA\nSEVEN SISTERS FALLS\" class=\"wp-image-1426\" srcset=\"https:\/\/indianonly.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/SEVEN.jpg 800w, https:\/\/indianonly.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/SEVEN-300x206.jpg 300w, https:\/\/indianonly.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/SEVEN-768x528.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-light-green-cyan-background-color has-background\"><em>KYNREM FALLS &nbsp;<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Kynrem Falls, located at a distance of 12 km from&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/topic\/cherrapunjee\">Cherrapunjee<\/a>&nbsp;in the East Khasi Hills district is a three-tiered waterfall covering a distance of 305 m vertically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The source of this fall originates from Thangkharang Park. It\u2019s the <strong>7th highest waterfall in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/topic\/india\">India<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;and due to its seasonal nature; this waterfall is best enjoyed during the monsoons. The name&nbsp;<strong>Nohkalikai<\/strong>&nbsp;can be translated from Khasi to <strong>&#8216;Jump of Ka Likai<\/strong>&#8216; (ka is a prefix for the female gender in Khasi).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nohkalikai Falls as one of the highest&nbsp;<em><strong>free leaping<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp;waterfalls in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img src=\"https:\/\/www.oyorooms.com\/travel-guide\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Nohkalikai-Falls.jpg\" alt=\"WATER FALLS - THE BEAUTY OF MEGHALAYA\nNOHKALIKAI FALLS  \"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-light-green-cyan-background-color has-background\">  <em>DAINTHLEN FALLS <\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The view of this waterfall tumbling down from a height of close to 80-90 m is from its source and provides a good opportunity to follow the path all the way to the bottom. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a small legend associated with the name of this fall. According to locals, there was a huge demon python by the name of Thlen who was drenched in greed and power. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some brave men caught the animal and destroyed its hood with a huge stone near this fall. Some of the marks present on the stones are still reminiscent of the violent struggle of that snake, say the naysayers. It lies about 5&nbsp;km from Happy Valley and is about 96 metres (315&nbsp;ft) in height. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is often termed as the <strong>&#8220;most beautiful&#8221; <\/strong>yet &#8220;most dangerous&#8221; waterfall in Shillong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color\">It is believed by the local people that this fall is haunted. If people go in odd number, they return in even number.
