TEMPLES ONE MUST VISIT IN MEGHALAYA

As we all know that India is land of tradition and culture. And temples are the main example here. In the topic temples one must visit in Meghalaya many of you get to know about the temples. There are many ancient temple in our country which teaches the karma of life.

There are some temples and religious places which are well known in Meghalaya are

  • Nartiang Durga Temple.
  • Mary Help Of Christian Cathedral.
  • Madina Mosque.
  • Mawjymbuin Cave Temple.
  • Kamakhya Temple.

NARTIANG DURGA TEMPLE:

Nartiang has an important place in history of Meghalaya. It is famous for two historic structures. One is a simple but important Durga temple and other is the largest collection of Khasi monoliths.

NARTIANG DURGA TEMPLE:

It is one of three Shakti Peeths of Maa Durga in Northeast India. It has three idols, among them one old stone idol of Devi and one metal idol of Durga with eight arms and crushing Mahishasur with her foot.

MARY HELP OF CHRISTIAN CATHEDRAL :

The Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians is a Cathedral in Shillong, Meghalaya. It is the cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Shillong and serves as the seat of the Metropolitan Archbishop of Shillong.

This building was made on sand instead of having a cement based foundation, which makes the church more interesting since Shillong and other cities of Meghalaya are prone to severe earthquakes.

This church is also known for the ‘Catherdra’ which refers to the Throne or sea of the Bishop, hence being known as a Cathedral church in Meghalaya.

MADIAN MOSQUE :

India’s first glass mosque, Madina Mosque of Shillong is a four-storeyed 120 feet high and 61 feet wide building  which can accommodate 2,000 worshippers. It has been built with financial assistance from the Shillong Muslim Union

This beautifully built huge Madina Mosque is located in Laban area of Shillong, close to the garrison grounds. It is claimed to be India’s first glass Mosque.

MAWJYMBUIN CAVE TEMPLES :

Mawjymbuin cave which is made of calcareous sandstones is 209 metre high and never fails to astonish the tourists. The serenity and picturesque backdrop of Mawsynram village with steep and sliding slopes ,rolling green mountains and ear-piercing but elegant waterfalls add glory to the place.

Years of weathering ,dripping of mineral enriched liquid and deposition of Calcium Carbonate has given rise to many magnificent stalagmites inside the cave. The 4m high, 50 metre wide entrance chamber is awe-inspiring.

KAMAKHYA TEMPLES :

This sacred temple in the heart of the capital city of Assam holds more than it meets the eye of the onlooker. The Kamakhya Temple had been built in reverence to Goddess Kamakhya or Sati, who was one of the numerous incarnations of Goddess Durga or Goddess Shakti.

The story of origin is behind the temple quite interesting. It revolves around the Hindu gods Shiva and Sati. Legend has it that Sati fought with her husband to be part of the grand yajna that her father was offering to appease the gods—of which both were purposefully not invited to.

SUMMARY:

When you say temple it’s not only belongs to Hindu, but also to all the religion. for the same reason we are called by “unity in diversity”. it’s a duty of each and every Indian to look after this ancient property for long.
